Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Continuous Improvement Specialist in Richmond, Virginia. The Continuous Improvement Specialist position is responsible for recruiting, training, and leading project teams to improve critical business processes. The individual in this position will effectively use proven Lean Six Sigma Methodology to address large scoped projects, complex problems and lead to fact-based decision making. Seeking candidates with prior exposure to Six Sigma, Lean and Continuous Improvement processes. Project management experience and college degree preferred.

Requirements for the Continuous Improvement Specialist position include:
  • Successful completion and thorough understanding of CPS, DMAIC, DMEDI methods of Six Sigma problem solving.
  • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
  • Must be results oriented and an effective business systems thinker.
  • Must be able to see the big picture and understand how the many business units at Carter interact with each other.
  • Must be able to manage risk and unknowns during each project life cycle.
  • Must be able to provide solutions that will improve the company's ability to meet customer expectations, improve quality, reduce cycle times, reduce costs, and increase profits.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to handle multiple tasks at once and possess strong organizational, planning and follow-up skills.
  • Must be able to network and work successfully with other departments and team members.
  • Must be able to facilitate and coordinate projects to ensure effective process research, development and implementation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required. Must be able to conduct training to small and large groups.
  • Must possess ability to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have analytical skills with ability to evaluate facts and maintain good judgment when making decisions.
  • Excellent PC skills with knowledge of Power Point and Excel required; basic AS/400 SEQUEL & SQL query skills preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel and work hours required by job.

Physical requirements must be met for the Continuous Improvement Specialist job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
