Computational Systems Biologist

Key Role:

Provide science and technology advisory support to our clients in health science research and development (R&D), including the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). Support programs related to computational systems biology. Apply scientific and engineering subject matter expertise to help conceptualize, create, and execute advanced government-funded R&D programs to accelerate better health outcomes for everyone. Characterize the state of a technical field, including identifying state-of-the-art technologies and promising new approaches. Perform analyses to recommend ambitious technology performance and cost targets that are on the cutting-edge of what might be achievable. Identify key technical experts across academia, industry, and national labs, perform technical outreach, and facilitate the formation of new multi-disciplinary technical communities. Review highly technical proposals and support negotiations of selected projects, including advising on project plans and technical milestones for complex R&D projects. Perform direct and periodic technical oversight of the project portfolio, from set-up to close-out, and assist the client with managing projects to achieve clear and compelling outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with post-doctorate research modeling complex biological systems and encompassing multi-scale processes from molecular to physiological levels

  • Experience developing and validating multi-scale biological models, including for human physiology and disease processes

  • Experience modeling techniques such as ordinary differential equations, agent-based modeling, and network analysis tailored to biological systems

  • Experience working with diverse clinical datasets, including EHRs, medical imaging, and real-time health monitoring data streams

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology with emphasis on conditions requiring personalized, proactive, and continuous management

  • Knowledge of trends in digital twin technologies for healthcare, including in personalized medicine and clinical decision support

  • Knowledge of healthcare challenges, patient care workflows, and regulatory and ethical considerations in digital health

  • Ability to integrate multi-omics datasets such as genomics, proteomics, or metabolomics into actionable biological simulations

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements

  • Doctorate degree in a medical applications field, including Systems Biology or Computational Biology

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience leveraging AI for applications such as remote monitoring, disease trajectory forecasting, and adaptive treatment strategies using personalized digital twins

  • Experience supporting human subjects research and animal research, including regulatory management and oversight

  • Experience in mixed-methods quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination

  • Experience in support of, or otherwise related to, an Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) organization

  • Experience searching across multiple databases, data repositories, web portals, search engines, and scientific journal platforms

  • Knowledge of the challenges and emerging opportunities in implementing digital twin technologies for healthcare

  • Knowledge of data privacy, security, and ethical concerns in using personal health data

  • Ability to handle a wide variety of tasks, including briefing support and general administration

  • Ability to use strong technical writing skills to prepare effective documentation

  • Ability to be highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and adept at multitasking in a high-pressure environment

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $96,600.00 to $220,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
