The role of Joint Interest Accountant will require an individual who understands the principles of COPAS accounting. This individual will be responsible for multiple company billing allocations to include labor, equipment, and insurance. The job requires the ability to work with others, multi-task and meet deadlines as assigned.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review monthly JIB charges for proper accounting treatment
- Prepare and record monthly company labor billing in accordance with COPAS and applicable JOAs
- Prepare and record monthly co-owned asset related charges
- Collaborate with Operations on needed information and assisting with the preparation of billing newly acquired co-owned assets and annual review of company rates in accordance with COPAS guidelines
- Prepare and record monthly insurance charges; includes working with appropriate departments for annual amortization of insurance policy renewals
- Record monthly gas buyback fees to wells
- Record monthly geosteering cost to wells
- Review and approve monthly allocation well setup/changes
- Prepare and record monthly drilling and operating overhead in accordance with COPAS and applicable JOAs; includes updating yearly increase or decrease as determined by COPAS
- Monthly review of charges in suspense and staking and permitting account for charges that can billed
- Prepare and record entries to reclass costs from the lease level to the AFE level as needed
- Participate in coordinating and responding to JIB audits
- Assist with monthly expense reporting and analysis
- Post-closing variance analysis, accruals, and reporting
- Monthly balance sheet account reconciliations as assigned
- Investigate and understand unusual transactions
- Collaborate with multiple departments as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Accounting
- Three (3+) or more years of Oil and Gas accounting experience in joint interest accounting and/or joint venture accounting/audit
- Three (3+) or more years of demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
