Southwire Job Description

The Process Engineer will be responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes in the wire and cable production line. This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining process improvements that enhance product quality, reduce costs, and improve efficiency. The role requires a hands-on approach to troubleshoot production issues, analyze data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Optimization: Develop, test, and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and quality of wire and cable manufacturing processes.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve manufacturing issues related to process variations, product defects, and equipment malfunctions.
Data Analysis: Analyze process data to monitor trends, identify performance bottlenecks, and recommend corrective actions.
Collaboration: Work closely with production, maintenance, quality control, and R&D teams to ensure smooth operation and product quality.
Process Documentation: Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Equipment Management: Support the setup, calibration, and maintenance of production equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Continuous Improvement: Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
Training: Provide technical training to operators and other staff on process changes, safety protocols, and best practices.
Compliance: Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering in a wire and cable manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of wire and cable manufacturing processes (e.g., extrusion, braiding, stranding, insulation, jacketing, etc.).
Software Skills: Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Office, etc.) and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Minitab).
Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve process-related issues quickly.
Project Management: Experience managing process improvement projects from concept to implementation.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences.
Certifications (Preferred): Lean Six Sigma or similar certifications.
