Primary Purpose

Develop and deliver all electronic health record (EHR) and technology related curriculum. Update lesson plans and exercises based on build changes, and manage curriculum for new hires, updates, rollouts, and optimization. Collaborates with clinical teams and Information Technology (IT) teams to develop and deliver training materials and updates to policies and procedures. Assist with configuring the training environments for technologies to support clinical workflow practice and training.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Prefer a Master's degree in a related field

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience in the planning, development, and evaluation of adult education programs or related experience.
  • One (1) plus years of experience in Epic documenting and reviewing patient charts.
  • Prefer three (3) plus years of clinical experience.
  • Prefer experience training Epic's suite of clinical applications.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of specific education and experience as stated above.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:
    • American Heart Association
    • American Red Cross Rescuer
    • Military Training Network.
  • Epic TED (Training Environment Development) Certification; otherwise, must obtain Epic TED certification within 12 months of hire.

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with all levels of internal/external staff, consultants, and vendors.
  • Must have proficient personal computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software; conduct/lead meetings, and create agenda/minutes.
  • Must be well-versed and facile with the Epic EHR in the subject area of the designated duties for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs, evaluates, and manages professional development programs based on principles of clinical learning that foster the development of competence within all clinical based roles. Delivers educational opportunities to super user groups and various other user groups; provides on-going support to clinical users. Implements curriculums for all clinical roles (physician, APP, nurse, respiratory therapist, dietitian, social worker, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologist, case manager, unlicensed assistive personnel, health unit coordinator, radiology technician, emergency technician and any other clinical role).
  • Performs learning needs assessment for current curriculum and needed curriculum for new hires, updates, rollouts, and optimization through an understanding of clinical workflow with a knowledge of desired impact to individual/group performance and the desired outcomes to patient care.
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders to clarify needs (physicians, Clinical Education department, Nursing Operations Specialists, nursing leaders, Quality, Safety, Regulatory, Performance Improvement and ancillary leaders) by conducting ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of educational activities to ensure they maintain and enhance professional development and promote the delivery of cost-effective high-quality healthcare.
  • Identifies individuals who do not meet established competency expectations and recommends a formal action plan to leadership.
  • Conducts research into professional and community practice standards, technology, clinical informatics, and clinical innovations for improved patient care.
  • Constructs supplemental reference materials such as job aids and FAQ documents for use by employees.
  • Collaborates with application teams and educational team to coordinate and take a lead role in customer user groups by leveraging knowledge of clinical workflow and informatic systems.
  • Assist in the development of related policies and procedures for introducing, evaluating, and modifying information technology applied to clinical practice.
  • Stays abreast of the latest training developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Health Care Informatics, by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained from current work practices. Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
