Your Role on the Team Covered under University series concepts/job specification for Custodian. Under supervision, incumbents perform semiskilled or skilled cleaning, housekeeping or general maintenance. Performs individually or as part of a team. Incumbents may experience a varying degree of contact with the public depending on the nature, location and assigned hours of work. Makes recommendations to improve processes and/or procedures. Involves the cleaning and housekeeping of buildings and exterior areas, including classrooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums, museums, private rooms in residence halls and apartments, patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, research and clinical laboratory areas, waiting areas and restrooms using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Follows established infection-control practices to ensure a clean and safe environment. May oversee biohazardous waste disposal process according to established procedures and quality standards. Follows established procedures for dealing with potential hazards. Monitors inventory and inspects equipment for repair and / or replacement. May manage Linen Services operations and staff lab coat ordering. Work may include trash and recycling material removal, meeting room set-up and hotel-like room servicing. Duties: These duties will include, but are not limited to daily floor care, dusting, bathroom cleaning and sanitation, kitchen cleaning, cleaning of fixtures and furniture, interior trash removal, window cleaning, and additional tasks as necessary to ensure all facilities are maintained at a high level of cleanliness. In addition, makes recommendations to improve processes and/or procedures. Skilled cleaning includes pressure washing, buffing/waxing hard floors, deep cleaning carpets. Drives university vehicles. Interviewing and hiring is based on internal hiring needs and how well the candidate's experience matches the assignment requirements.Certaintemporary assignments may require clearance of a health physical or require a valid California Driver's License for driving university vehicles. The majority of our temporary positions are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. We also have occasional part-time, weekend, and evening hours available, depending on the assignment.
