DESCRIPTION

The Department of Cognitive Science promotes the study of learning, perception, action, and interaction in the physical, material, social, and cultural world. The approach is inter-disciplinary employing ideas and techniques from a number of contributing disciplines, including anthropology, communications, computer science, ethology, electrical engineering, linguistics, neurology, neurosciences, philosophy, psychology, rhetoric, and sociology.

The interdisciplinary cognitive science community on campus is integral to cognitive science as practiced at UCSD. The department offers an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in addition to the departmental Ph.D., with participation by members of the Departments of Anthropology, Biology, Cognitive Science, Communication, Computer Science and Engineering, Linguistics, Music, Neuroscience, Philosophy, Psychiatry, Psychology, and Sociology.

Under the supervision of Fiscal Officer/Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for purchasing, including entering orders into Oracle Procurement, placing orders with vendors, processing packing slips and invoices, and resolving problems. The incumbent will process check requests, travel advances and vouchers, and work orders and service orders. The incumbent will also serve as backup for facilities requests. This position will maintain department databases for purchasing and telecommunications, and maintain department equipment maintenance databases. Provide overall clerical support to business office.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in purchasing, and inventory.

  • Demonstrated ability to process a large and varied volume of paperwork rapidly and accurately.

  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer for word processing, database management, spreadsheets, campus-wide integrated systems, internet browsers, Acrobat products, and electronic mail.

  • Excellent skills in general accounting, bookkeeping, verifying balances and expenses on accounts, reconciliation to general ledgers, in relation to award administration and higher-education policy.

  • Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and flexibility.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement and seek advice.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with detail, including neat, legible handwriting and excellent record keeping.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with principal investigators, faculty, students, staff and vendors, in person, by phone and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions.

  • Skill in identifying and bringing problems to supervisor's attention for resolution.

  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities.

PREFERRED:

  • Working knowledge of UCSD Integrated Financial Information Systems and Financial Link.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of UC organization, policies and procedures that apply to purchasing, accounting, reimbursements and travel.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $40,700 - $85,295 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $19.49 - $40.85

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
