Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
This position offers an exciting opportunity to participate in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (
EFNEP), a vital initiative dedicated to improving health through education. Aligned with the mission and goals of the Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T,
EFNEP is federally funded and focuses on empowering limited-resource youth and families with young children through engaging and practical nutrition lessons.
As part of this role, you will directly impact the community by teaching nutrition to under-resourced youth and adults. Your responsibilities will also include delivering exceptional customer service, promoting the program, scheduling events, managing expense reports, and providing instructional support. Please note that the continuation of this position is subject to the availability of funding.

Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension at A&T provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas - Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners - North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system is formed. In addition to campus operations, Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T, has professionally staffed offices in almost half of the 100 counties in North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian Nation.
EFNEP's mission is to enhance the health of limited-resource youth and families with young children by providing practical lessons in basic nutrition, healthy lifestyles, resource management, and food safety. The program aims to help families and youth improve their behaviors in several key areas: dietary intake as recommended by the Dietary Guidelines and MyPlate, food resource management skills, nutrition practices, and food safety practices.
Participants learn to better select and purchase food that meets their families' nutritional needs while gaining new skills in food preparation, storage, and safety. They also discover how to effectively manage their food budgets, including the use of Electronic Benefits Transfer (
EBT), food instruments, and Cash Value Vouchers. |

- Applies knowledge of EFNEP's mission and services to provide education on the principles of nutrition and diet, food safety, and physical activity to eligible participants. Education includes information delivery, food demonstrations, and exercise demonstrations
- Uses in-depth understanding of EFNEP goals and policies to recruit and enroll youth in the program, involve community volunteers in leadership roles, market the program to target audiences, collaborate with extension staff and local agencies, assist with the securing of program resources, and submit required reports.
- Works along with the EFNEP Coordinator and the 4-H Agent and Family and Consumer Science Agent to meet the needs of the county as identified by the local advisory council.
- Serves as a program liaison for the Agent or as a representative for the program as requested.
- Creates additional materials as approved by the EFNEP Extension Associate, Family and Consumer Science Agent and/or 4-H Agent.
- Deliver curricula through regular group activities and collecting required data from participating youth and volunteers.
- Attends trainings and meetings as designated by County Extension Director, EFNEP Coordinator, and/or state staff.
- Utilizes knowledge of federal, state and local policies and procedures and maintains participant confidentiality.

- Teaches the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) curriculum to limited-resource adult caregivers and school-aged youth.

- Responds to inquiries from the general public by telephone, e-mail and in person, regarding programs, related program services and upcoming events.
