Code Enforcement Inspector (Community Development)

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Code Enforcement Inspector (Community Development) at the Village of Schaumburg, not only will you be a part of a thriving community, but you will also be a key player in what makes this community thrive. You will contribute to the enforcement of all community maintenance standards, performing inspections and services necessary for effective enforcement in residential, commercial, and industrial properties and businesses as required under codes and ordinances.

The position requires self-discipline, accurate scheduling, spontaneous problem resolution, excellent verbal and written communication skills, provision of expert testimony in courts of law, and working autonomously. Decisions made by the inspector have a significant impact on the economic conditions of businesses property and livelihood of residents.

You will be a vital part of enforcing all applicable adopted code of ordinances and any adopted codes and ordinances for effective enforcement of departmental procedures.

As an employee in this department, you will be a part of the team that is responsible forplanning and zoning, development review, and building and engineering permit services. The Village is dedicated to promoting the public health, safety, and welfare of the community by ensuring safe building construction, ensuring ongoing compliance with life safety and public health codes, and facilitating long range land use planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are seeking an experiencedCode Enforcement Inspector (Community Development).

If you are passionate about code compliance and have:

1. Associate's degree in general studies with course work in code inspection, building inspection, construction technology, or a related field.

2. A minimum of two years of experience in a position involving customer service and customer complaint investigation skills. Code enforcement or inspection experience is preferred.

3. Certificationin Property Maintenance and Housing Inspection with the International Code Council or equivalent preferred, or ability to obtain within one year from the date of hire.

4. Possession of a valid driver's license.

5. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.

STARTING PAY RATE: $31.02 - $34.56 per hour based on a 40-hour workweek. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $31.02 - $45.20 This position is represented by a union; you may refer to the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement available on our website.
