Job Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, the Project Management Senior Associate applies skills as a seasoned, experienced project management professional with a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods, relevant policies and procedures, and organizational objectives to resolve a wide range of issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Manages projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget and / or project team size. Participates with other higher-level managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Develops and coordinates high-priority initiatives; handles questions, concerns, issues and scheduling requests; may serve as a liaison to a variety of internal and external constituencies. Projects may be passed off to the owners to implement and maintain. Requires level of expertise in project management such as project management certificate and / or quality improvement processes like Six Sigma or Lean or equivalent project management experience.

The Audit & Advisory Services department operates at a very fast pace, with multiple simultaneous projects occurring at all times. This position requires the utmost professionalism as it may serve as the primary information point as well as functions as liaison with other key university stakeholders and senior leadership. This position requires excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills. The Project Management Senior Associate must be a self-starter, able to adapt to rapidly changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment, and exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. The Project Management Senior Associate will work on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

This position should be able to triage, reprioritize projects, and respond to unexpected events independently and promptly. A crucial element of this position is confidentiality, tact, and discretion to handle highly sensitive matters.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $84,400 - 180,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF Audit & Advisory Services (A&AS) provides independent, objective assurance and advice that provides value added services toward reducing risk and improving operations. These critical activities contribute significantly to the ability of UCSF to achieve its organizational objectives and mission of advancing health worldwide.

Services provided include assurance/compliance audits, advisory/consulting projects, and investigative reviews. The scope of A&AS encompasses activities within the UCSF Healthcare Enterprise; Professional Schools, Institutes and Centers, and related academic units of the UCSF Campus; and Finance and Administrative Services.

Additionally, A&AS coordinates the activities of visiting external auditors; provides special studies and assessments as requested by management; serves as the coordination and triage point for all whistleblower complaints; and assists, as requested, the University's financial auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, in performing the annual examination of the financial statements

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts. Minimum three years related experience
  • Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills
  • Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Trello, Asana, Jira,)
  • Demonstrated experience using collaborative platforms (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, etc.) to facilitate team communication and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated experience generating reports and analyzing project data to track progress, performance, and make data-driven decisions.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Working knowledge of initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives

License/Certification


  • Project management certification from a reputable organization such as PMP, CSM or ACP to include a qualifying exam and / or quality assurance processes like Six Sigma or Lean or equivalent project management experience required
