Position Highlights |
The Center for Innovation in Brain Science (CIBS) is an exciting research nexus at the University of Arizona cultivating collaborations and providing expertise in the area of translational neuroscience. The Faculty in CIBS conduct cutting-edge research primarily related to four specific age-related neurodegenerative disorders - Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. The center is currently seeking a Research Technician II to participate in day-to-day operations supporting clinical animal operations. Candidates shall maintain detailed documentation of laboratory procedures and experiments while adhering to all Standard Operating Procedures and safety policies. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Collect and aid in routine data collection including but not limited to: monthly weights, barbering scale, clinical observations and treatment, locations, and upload to Climb according to departmental standards (standard operating procedures).
- Aid in assigned colony management tasks including but not limited to: setting up new breeders, splitting breeder pairs, collecting and entering genotypes, tagging, and entering weanlings into Climb according to departmental standards (standard operating procedures).
- Assist in animal team work requests from investigators, including but not limited to: venipuncture and blood collection, pap smears, account and room transfers, fasting, and cage requests.
- Peripherally assist in behavioral team work requests from investigators including but not limited to room transfers, tagging, tail-marking, phenotyping/blood draws, necropsies, and behavioral tests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Data management skills.
- Knowledge of colony management.
- Knowledge of and skill with mouse handling, genetics, and breeding.
- Knowledge of animal venipuncture, necropsy, and physiological testing.
- Skill with behavioral assays.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/move/transport up to 10 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science.
