Description

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This internship is anticipated to run from middle of May - August 2025 working an average of 40 hours a week. This role is based in Durham, NC with a five day per week onsite requirement. Relocation Assistance is not available for this position.
Execute assigned Continuous Improvement, Cost of Goods reduction, and efficiency-oriented tasks to support Manufacturing schedule adherence and Engineering project work. Ensure required Engineering support is available for the manufacture and packaging of the BacT/ALERT product line to meet or exceed production targets and quality.
  • Develop improvement strategies for existing equipment and processes. Support projects as required to maintain and improve equipment performance. Act as a troubleshooter to identify barriers and obstacles that could impede progress. Execute assigned tasks to ensure assets are efficiently deployed to minimize scrap and rework while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), cost of finished goods, and yield.
  • Support Engineering and Reliability projects as they are developed and executed to ensure they are completed in a timely manner. Support Manufacturing operations efficiency goals. Communicate proposed changes as needed. Support areas of need as required. Assist in day to day Engineering activities as required. Participate and support equipment and process improvements and support the success and effectiveness of the team. Will interact with maintenance, management, quality, and manufacturing.
  • Support Engineering Operations and BacT/ALERT Manufacturing
    • Observe and evaluate BacT/ALERT Packaging processes
    • Observe and evaluate BacT/ALERT Formulation and Filling processes
  • Support Reliability Engineering Initiatives
    • Evaluate equipment reliability through data analysis
    • Perform Spare Part Criticality assessments to support spare parts inventory requirements
  • Support New Product Development
    • Provide support to New Product Development projects as required
  • Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives
    • Explore opportunities for Continuous Improvement
    • Evaluate OEE results, analyze data, and support improvements as required
    • Observe and evaluate in process scrap and act to improve as required
    • Participate in Continuous Improvement Projects as required (Gemba Walks, Kaizen Events, etc).
  • Provide technical documents and results
    • Provide formal evaluation results to Manufacturing/Engineering team members
    • Author, support, and execute technical reports
  • Engineering Team Meetings
    • Actively participate in team meetings as required.

Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required and must be actively enrolled in an academic program/institution pursuing a degree.
    • Engineering or Life Science (Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, etc) majors are desired
  • Six Sigma and/or Project Management experience is preferred
  • Previous work experience is preferred, ideally in a Manufacturing or Warehouse setting
