The Faustman Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to contribute to innovative Phase II clinical trials using the BCG vaccine to treat type 1 diabetes. This position provides hands-on experience with human immunology, working with human samples and gaining exposure to translational research.
Responsibilities include conducting experiments such as ELISAs, cell culture, flow cytometry, handling and analyzing large datasets, and performing molecular biology techniques. Candidates will have opportunities for independent research, potentially leading to scientific publications. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring medical or research professionals to deepen their knowledge of immunology. Applicants should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, basic research experience, and interest in diabetes and autoimmunity. Phlebotomy certification (or willingness to train) and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required. Exceptional candidates may contribute to publications in scientific journals. Through this position, you will have first-hand experience working with real human samples throughout a clinical trial. This position will provide exposure to research related to human disease and an understanding of the importance and challenges of translational research. Successful applicants will have a strong bench science background and a willingness to learn. Previous experience with ELISAs, cell culture, mice, flow cytometry, or molecular biology is preferred. While we are a close-knit team, there are also ample opportunities for independent research, which can lead to publications in scientific journals.
