Description

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Senior Staff Associate I who will perform duties associated with coordinating and implementing research studies and projects. The research associate is expected to have expertise across multiple functions in vision research sciences.

Responsibilities:

* Will assist in developing and carrying out procedures for protocols.

* Responsible for optimizing tissue processing for paraffin, vibratome and cryostat sectioning.

* Will provide histological services for ongoing vision research projects.

* Consults and aids postdocs, research staff, and students on best practices and protocols

* Troubleshoots and improves best practices and procedures.

* Will work with the embedding of tissues, tissue sectioning, and staining.

* Developing conditions for optimal tissue processing for a number of labs

* Process mouse, rat and pig eyes for histological analysis as well as mouse brain both fetal and adult tissue.

* Responsible for H&E and immunohistochemical staining

* Will employ microtome for paraffin sectioning; cryostat for frozen sections; or vibratome for sectioning.

* Instruct research staff and students on complex histological and staining techniques.

* Provides investigators with expert advice related to experimental design when histological analysis is involved.

* Contributes and facilitates cross collaboration in the ophthalmology laboratories.

* Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of related experience. Master's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.

* Independent self-managed individual capable of performing complex tasks at a highvolume capacity.

* Excellent computer skills required, ability to multitask.
