Position Highlights |
The Senior Copywriter will develop copy that elevates the university's brand and reputation with local and national audiences. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Content Strategy, this position will be responsible for ideating, writing, and managing content that aligns with the university's goals. This person will be part of a highly collaborative, highly active creative and content team that includes graphic designers, photo/video professionals, and social media creators. The ideal candidate is a strategic omni-channel thinker, a message-driven storyteller, and eager to collaborate in a team setting to bring the university brand to life for mass audiences.

Duties & Responsibilities |
Writing and Content Creation
- Ideate, concept, write, and manage engaging content that aligns with the university's brand goals, with a particular focus on advertising and marketing, video scripts, social, and web content creation.
- Write and pitch brand aligned concepts for traditional and non-traditional advertising including out-of-home, digital, TV, radio, etc.
- Develop annual content calendars and seasonal plans to meet the unique needs of diverse audiences and platforms while maintaining a cohesive brand voice.
- Stay informed about emerging content trends and platforms and incorporate innovative formats to enhance engagement.
Email Marketing
- Develop email marketing strategies, including content creation, audience segmentation, and performance analysis to optimize campaigns. Test subject lines, layouts, and CTAs to improve open and click-through rates.
- Develop working knowledge of in-house CRM including but not limited to content building, template implementation, user journeys, customization, list building, etc.
Collaboration
- Work closely with creative director, art directors,
designers, photographers and videographers to ensure that written and visual content marry seamlessly. Attend photo and video shoots as necessary to ensure alignment. - Conduct interviews and gather soundbite content for
various projects. - Interface with other departments and stakeholders to
ensure content consistency and alignment with broader university initiatives. - Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate fresh
ideas and ensure alignment with strategic priorities. - Implement edits and feedback from internal and external
partners as needed.
Content Strategy & SEO Expertise
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Content
Strategy to execute content strategies that align with the university's marketing and brand objectives, incorporating SEO best practices to enhance the visibility and ranking of university content across digital platforms. - Analyze keyword research to guide content creation and
optimize existing content for search engines. - Review SEO performance metrics and recommend adjustments
to improve rankings and organic reach.
Performance Analysis
- Monitor and analyze content performance across platforms,
using data-driven insights to adjust strategies and improve outcomes. - Create detailed reports that translate performance data
into actionable recommendations. Identify trends and opportunities to enhance audience engagement and campaign effectiveness.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Skilled in written and verbal communication with a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital marketing strategies and current trends.
- Ability to create compelling copy for multiple marketing channels and formats, with examples of repurposing content across media.
- Demonstrated ability to craft engaging, audience-focused stories, with a strong understanding of how to captivate and connect with audiences through storytelling.
- Ability to conduct research and synthesize information from diverse sources.
- Proficiency in adhering to and maintaining a consistent brand voice and guidelines in marketing materials.
- Demonstrated understanding of SEO best practices, including strategic and seamless incorporation of keywords into copy.
- Skilled in working collaboratively in cross-functional team environments to achieve shared goals.
- Demonstrated high proficiency in attention to detail, proofreading, and editing written content.
- Proficiency in organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency using content management systems and other relevant software tools.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience with copywriting campaigns and projects across various industries.

Preferred Qualifications |
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education or a similar field.
- Experience with data analysis tools and techniques for content.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in copywriting, preferably in an agency or marketing environment.
