Position Highlights

As a member of the Military-Connected Benefits and Certifications (MCBC) team, the Military Education Benefits Specialist will support military-connected students utilizing Veterans Education Benefits and Active-Duty Tuition Assistance. Specifically, the specialist will be primarily responsible for ensuring receipt and posting of VA monies to student records as certified. The MCBC unit in the Office of the Registrar is charged with providing comprehensive support to students utilizing G.I. Bill and Tuition Assistance benefits. The MCBC team is co-located with the UA VETS Center, a comprehensive support services unit for veterans, their dependents, ROTC students and current military members. The Specialist reports to the Manager for the MCBC team.

The Office of the Registrar is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the academic record. Serving all students, faculty, academic units, and student support functions; the Office is charged with the implementation of academic and student policies and their alignment to state and federal regulations and accreditation standards.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary processor to claim and apply VA payment wires to student records, to include VA overpayments
  • Collaborate with professional and student worker staff to provide exceptional service to military-connected students and their families
  • Serve as primary liaison between the School Certifying Officials, Bursar's Office and the Campus Store to review military-connected students' accounts
  • Provide support for Active Duty members using Department of Defense (DoD) Tuition Assistance
  • Lead annual updates to the various Tuition Assistance portals (Army Ignited, Navy College Management Information System, and the DoD Memorandum of Understanding)
  • Participate in regular training and professional development to keep current on knowledge of laws and regulations that might affect the organization's policies specific to military education benefits.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet department, division and university goals and objectives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of FERPA and ethical principles in working with students
  • Ability to effectively use standardized software programs including Google Suite, Office 365, Trellis, etc.
  • Skills in data entry and database maintenance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals (students, staff, faculty) using electronic tools (email, Trellis, phone, Zoom)
  • Knowledge of appropriate federal and state regulations to maintain compliance with VA and DoD rules.
  • Proficiency or understanding of financial reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe products
  • Customer Service experience
  • Bachelors degree
