Purpose

This role will be in our Accounting department and will perform accounting and analytic functions to accurately prepare and support the Company's financial statements and related disclosures. This includes recording transactions and performing processes in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulated utility requirements, and internal controls. Analyze financial results to ensure accuracy of statements, supporting schedules and disclosures. Manage tasks to meet critical filing deadlines, including working with management and operational department personnel to evaluate accounting information for decision making purposes. Perform, evaluate and document internal controls. Manage compliance with SEC, GAAP, FERC, and various state regulatory requirements.

Accountabilities
  • The selected candidate will need to possess associate level knowledge of accounting principles and digital literacy needed to capture and organize information and assure the accuracy and reliability of data and reports.
  • Requires knowledge to investigate problems, evaluate and suggest or develop procedural changes.
  • Take necessary action to review financial results and information to ensure they are reasonable and to ensure reporting and processing needs are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Possess proven writing skills needed for memos, documentation, and reports.
  • Has the ability to explain issues related to closing or analysis results.
  • Must be comfortable developing good working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the organization and possess the ability to share information, reports and findings to all levels within the organization.
  • Adaptability will be necessary for responding to changes in schedules, reporting requirements and shift in priorities accordingly. Adjusting to new procedures processes and technology in a positive manner will be beneficial.
  • Identify problems quickly while examining and evaluating relevant data and information.
  • Ideally being able to break down problems or issues in a logical manner, find the relevant information, and resolve the problem or issue and document such would be a strong suit of this candidate. Looking for someone who asks probing questions that deal with more than just the obvious facts.
  • Ability to research accounting issues and evaluate results.
  • Detail-orientated and work as accurately as possible to complete tasks. Uses "reasonableness" testing to review information and overcomes difficult situations to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
  • Ability to identify and collect all relevant resources needed to complete budget, closing processes and reporting.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent)
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working experience with Microsoft and accounting software is necessary
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of 2+ yearsof experience in cost accounting is a requirement
  • Experience working in the utilities, energy and/or other regulated industries is an asset, although not required
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP system is a requirement.Experience with PowerPlanwould be considered an asset
