Working with us, you will:

  • Produce detailed acoustics and vibration reports, sketches, drawings, details, and specifications as required.
  • Manage deadlines and deliverables for acoustical projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers so that acoustical recommendations and deliverable are provided at appropriate intervals.
  • Advise design team members on the acoustical credits in sustainable design systems such as LEED, WELL, GBCI or others. Perform calculations and provide recommendations to comply with chosen credits and provide final documentation for the application.
  • Review construction submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and complete onsite inspections to review acoustical performance of the project and issue reports for corrective actions.
  • Discuss and present acoustic concepts and options to a non-technical audience.
  • Perform field measurements of reverberation time, sound or impact isolation, vibration or other measurements as needed for project.
  • Compile data collected in the field to determine findings and solutions and provide reports or documentation to summarize the investigation and findings.
  • Assist in developing processes to improve efficiency and best in class designs.
  • Assist in establishing best practices and standards for typical partition types, background noise, and performance based on space types.
  • Mentor junior technical staff and support their on-going professional growth.
  • Assist in pursuit of new opportunities and in acoustics and vibration fee development as required.
  • Participate in marketing efforts as required to build the acoustic discipline and help win project work.
  • Represent SmithGroup in professional societies and industry associations (ASA, INCE, and others).

An ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelors degree in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, or relevant field, with coursework or specialization in vibration and/or acoustics
  • 10+ years of consulting and design experience working as an Acoustics Consultant in support of the design of new construction and major renovation projects in Healthcare, Higher Education, Corporate Workplace, and Science and Technology markets. Experience in recording environments, music education, and performing arts spaces a plus.
  • Experience using a sound level meter / real time analyzer and taking field measurements in accordance with ASTM or other applicable standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and formal documentation
  • Willingness to mentor and educate junior staff
  • Strong leadership and people skills, as required for team collaboration and cohesion.
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam, Microsoft Office, Revit, Sketch-Up, Ease, and CadnaA or Soundplan desirable
