Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.
Position Summary
THIS POSTING IS FOR 2 VACANCIES. ALL APPLICANTS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR BOTH VACANCIES.

The Research Assistant will collaborate with Dr. Cathi Propper's investigative team, including the Project Director and research staff, to support social and educational research initiatives. Primary responsibilities include data collection, reviewing data for quality control, and data processing.

Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct classroom observations in participating schools and code observational data
* Build and maintain relationships with school teachers and administrators
* Administer age-appropriate assessments to child participants in both school and home settings
* Schedule and conduct home visits with study participants, including administering questionnaires to caregivers
* Process and prepare research data for analysis
* Regular communication with fellow research team members regarding data collection
* Maintain the quality of the data collected and promptly report problems or complications to supervisors
* Follow all IRB-approved protocols for data collection
* Support the dissemination of research finding
* Attend additional training or meetings, and participate in basic project planning as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience working with children
* Strong organizational and time management abilities
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
* Proficiency in data collection and basic research methods
* Fluent in English and Spanish
* Willingness to travel (by car) locally for study visits
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience working in educational settings
* Experience with data collection in an educational setting
* Experience with developmental assessments with children
* Experience with data collection in English and Spanish
* One or more years of research experience
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
The position requires travel to community locations, navigating walkways and stairs, and the ability to sit at child-eye level for up to an hour for multiple times daily.
The role requires collecting data during school hours and handling data management and project tasks outside school hours
