Work schedule includes both regular office hours and regular night and
weekend hours and some holidays. Exempt salaried position. |
Basic Function |
Assist the Head Field Hockey Coach with the daily operation of the field hockey program and the recruitment of student-athletes. Perform additional coaching or administrative assignments and teach in the department as requested. |
Essential Job Functions |
Coaching
- Assisting the head coach with daily practice planning
- Assisting Head Coach with game decisions and providing player feedback and evaluation
- Coaching on-field
- Working with and developing goal-keepers
- Performing video analysis and scouting of opponents
- Assisting and mentoring student athletes with academic progress, course selection, campus involvement and social/community outreach, and other issues related to the college experience
Recruiting
- Recruiting quality student-athletes both on campus and at various recruiting events throughout the year
- Managing recruiting databases
- Scheduling recruiting visits
Marketing/Communications
- Designing and distributing recruiting letters, marketing materials and correspondence throughout the year
- Assisting with team marketing and social media
- Communicating with Sports Information Office with appropriate information for publications and press releases
- Communicating and working with other departments across the athletic department and throughout the campus
Administrative
- Coordinating and managing game day operations
- Planning travel and meals
- Assisting the head coach in daily administrative tasks
- Attending department meetings and assistant coach mentorship meetings
- Providing game day management for other sports in the department
- Working with the equipment staff on the distribution and maintenance of athletic equipment
- Supervising student workers
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications |
A Bachelor's degree as well as collegiate playing and coaching experience is required.
Candidate must have a strong understanding of various coaching techniques and a willingness to learn new methods of instruction.
Candidate must have a current, valid driver's license and be insurable under Denison's liability insurance policy.
Candidate must have a demonstrated background in coaching or playing field hockey on the college level, and successful, proven experience in recruiting student athletes.
Candidate must also possess an understanding of
NCAA Division
III and conference rules and regulations, and an ability to teach physical education courses and relate well to students, fellow department members and other colleagues. |
Preferred Qualifications |
A preferred candidate would possess:
- a high competency in field hockey skill and tactical instruction of all positions
- previous experience in goalkeeping or in training goalkeepers
- experience in video analysis and scouting
- understanding of NCAA DIII rules, and the differences between divisions
- demonstrable recruiting knowledge and/or previous experience with the recruiting process in the United States
- experience in effectively promoting and/or recruiting within the DIII and private liberal arts experience
- demonstrable experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences
- strong verbal communication skills and the excellent writing, management and organizational skills needed to effectively communicate with coaches, athletes, athletics and university administration, alumni, prospective players and their families
- experience in event planning and management
- ability to lead and work independently as well as within a team environment
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Travel required.

Physical Demands |
Ability to work extended hours associated with athletic events. Ability to work in a sometimes stressful environment. |
