Under the general direction of the EMS Medical Control Officer & EMS Medical Director, it ensures that quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives are carried out and EMS providers in the regions deliver quality patient care. Provides educational services to both hospital staff and EMS providers in the regions. This position will be integral to the Paramedic Program educational process for new paramedics.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Conducts reviews of prehospital patient care reports (PCR) to ensure quality care based on current protocols and standards for multiple EMS services and First Responder Agencies.
  • 2. Develop and maintain standards for medical control policies and procedures, including the renewal process for all providers.
  • 3. Complete & publish monthly QA/QI reports as required.
  • 4. Ensure that QA reviews are completed on patient care charts per policy.
  • 5. Maintain minutes of all QA/QI meetings.
  • 6. Ensure confidentiality of all QA/QI findings and investigations.
  • 7. Establish and maintain a positive and learning-based QA/QI process that seeks to grow providers into better clinicians.
  • 8. Develops training plans for individual providers and department needs with the EMS Medical Control Officer and EMS Medical Director.
  • 9. Conducts CME education in partnership with the EMS team.
  • 10. Teach in the Bridgeport Hospital Paramedic Program as needed.
  • 11. Assists with clinical services accreditation activities as needed.
  • 12. Assists with Emergency Management activities within the hospital including the Decontamination team.
  • 13. Assists with AHA Training Center activities by providing regular ACLS and PALS classes on and off-site monthly.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Paramedic Program certification and license. Associate's Degree in a related health sciences field or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

2-Years EMS Experience as a Paramedic, QA/QI experience preferred. Critical Care paramedic experience preferred.

LICENSURE

National Registry Paramedic, CT Paramedic License, AHA Instructor certificates for ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications, NAEMT Courses as needed. CT Emergency Medical Services Instructor required.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Knowledge of National EMS Scope of Practice, Connecticut EMS regulations and statutes, EMS education and training methods, team building, time management, supervision, communication skills, and problem-solving. Effectively command personnel and coordinate emergency incidents. Though knowledge of The National Incident Management System.
