This position is restricted to current City of Minneapolis Public Works Employees Only. Supervise and coordinate the work of crews of engaged in the construction, repair, maintenance, and cleaning of storm drains, sanitary sewers, and tunnels.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

*Supervise, coordinate, and participate in the construction and repair of storm drains, sanitary sewers, storm tunnels, storm drains, manholes, catch basins, cast-in-place concrete structures, holding ponds, and various other sewer related projects. *Plan, schedule and supervise sewer and storm drain preventative maintenance, route cleaning and inspection of sanitary sewer and storm drain systems. *Construct manholes, catch basins, storm drains, main lines, sanitary mains and laterals. *Coordinate and participate in the installation of sewer pipe and appurtenances, including excavation, compaction, checking of joints and duct filling. *Prepare work plans and order materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for projects. *Coordinate construction projects with other departments, utility companies, contractors, etc. *Estimate time and resource requirements on assigned tasks/projects. *Keep and maintain accurate and appropriate records and reports of equipment, supplies, materials used, record drawings, progress, labor hours, daily work sheets, time sheets, and other miscellaneous reports used to complete tasks/projects. *Enforce City policies, procedures and work/safety regulations. *Take and/or recommend administrative and disciplinary action when necessary. *Complete assigned tasks in an economical and timely manner. *May assist in the selection of staff and/or in the review of performance measures. *Manage a diverse workforce, create a healthy, respectful work environment, and encourage professional development for all employees. *Oversee safety practices of work performed, as well as safety crew members and the general public. *Respond to emergency situations such as rainstorms, back-ups and other priority jobs. *Respond to complaints from the general public * Instruct, train and monitor subordinates in the performance of their duties and in the proper use of equipment. * Prepare cost estimates and order and maintain an inventory of supplies, tools, materials, and equipment relative to work. * Complete and submit, in a timely manner, all records required whether paper or electronic (Maximo), forms and reports, including payroll, progress reports and other records for assigned staff. * Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION High School Diploma or equivalent. REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE Five seasons of experience in construction, maintenance and/or equipment operation or a combination of construction, maintenance, and equipment operation in the sewer field. REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver's License. BACKGROUND CHECK: The City has determined that a criminal background check, and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.
Drug and Alcohol Testing:
All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The examination/selection process for this position may consist of a rating of training and experience and/or written examination or an oral examination (100%). Since the examination selection process may consist of a rating of training and experience, it is to your advantage to be as complete and thorough on your application form, supplemental application and other support documentation/materials as is possible. Minimum passing score 80.00. At each step of the selection process, the department reserves the right to limit the number of applicants to be tested. UNION REPRESENTATION: This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Foremen's Association. WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to the elements, raw sewage, chemical gases, noise, dust, dirt and fumes.
ELIGIBLE LIST STATEMENT: The names of the applicants who meet minimum qualifications and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire three (3) months after it has been established.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* A Class S-C Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Certificate within one year of hire. * Considerable knowledge of the standards, practices, techniques, and methods of the construction, repair, and maintenance to sewers. * Considerable knowledge of the tools and equipment used in performing the work. * Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work. * Working knowledge of computers. * Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of subordinates. * Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. * Good human relations skills.
