Position Highlights The Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) at the University of Arizona is looking to hire an Associate In Extension. The candidate will contribute to transboundary water work at the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC), including but not limited to the Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program.

The position involves applied research, reporting, outreach, and engagement activities. The person in the position will design, organize, manage and carry out research and will work with external and internal stakeholders to design and implement projects that further knowledge of transboundary water systems and enhance capacity to address water challenges at different geographic scales. The position may have supervisory responsibility over students. Projects may be funded through federal grants or other external sources.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participating in investigations necessary to carrying out research project(s), including working with project team members (both internal and external) and potentially supervising students and/or other staff. The investigations will include collection and/or analysis of hydrologic data, socioeconomic information at the aquifer level, and/or water management/governance information related to transboundary aquifers. The work will include report writing and may include data visualization. Due to the collaborative work across states and countries, the work may include study design and leadership.
  • Organizing meetings and communicating regularly with partners, including government agencies, and stakeholders and responding to inquiries. Coordinate with internal and external partners in developing engagement and outreach programs. Identifying stakeholders and organizations for outreach/engagement activities, and workshops; develop agendas; take and publish meeting minutes as appropriate. Track engagement and other meetings and track action items to completion.
  • Preparing articles, bulletins, presentations, and other communication materials based on project work, including those needed for stakeholder engagement activities. Materials may need to be prepared in English and Spanish.
  • Writing progress reports required of the funding agency and other reports/bulletins and responding to requests for information.
  • Coordinating internally with WRRC personnel and participating in WRRC meetings and programs as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Experience interacting with water agencies and officials in the U.S. and Mexico.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Ability to travel between the United States and Mexico.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or Ph.D. in a field connected to water resources management.
  • Experience conducting research related to water governance and management in the U.S. and Mexico and groundwater in arid regions.
  • Experience and knowledge with the Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program.
  • Experience with stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Experience with and knowledge of groundwater governance along the border shared by the United States and Mexico.
