WGL- Sr Payment Analyst

Position Summary
Responsible for ensuring payments are processed and exceptions are handled accurately and timely. Manage the payment reconciliations between the depository financial institution and the billing system for all payment channels. Lead the team in preparing daily payment files for processing. Support the cancellation and re-issuance of outstanding refund payments and develop strong relationships with outsourced business partners, providing guidance and support as needed. Collaborate with internal and external business partners to resolve complex payment inquiries and investigations. Support leadership by providing strategic recommendations to solve problems and improve business operations, communicating effectively with other departments. Mentor and train junior payment specialists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Tasks and Responsibilities
* Manage payment postings within the billing system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Perform detailed payment reconciliations to maintain financial integrity.
* Lead investigations into payment discrepancies and manage the refund process.
* Collaborate with back-office support team with various payment-related functions.
* Develop and implement strategies to improve payment processes and resolve issues.
* Provide insights and recommendations to enhance operational efficiency.
* Mentor and train junior analysts, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
* Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve payment inquiries and issues.
* Work with accounting to support miscellaneous payments and receive G/L information for booking.
* Collaborate with the stakeholders to review potential refunds to state agencies.
* Support any audit inquires.
* May perform special projects upon request.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
* Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, statistics or related field preferred
* 5+ Years of analytical experience in a business environment
* Experience working with business information systems, including SAP, Peoplesoft, Oracle or similar.
* Experience querying from applications.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data and to identify relevant issues in solving business problems.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex messages, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences at all organization levels.
* Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, to share, retrieve, research and present business information.
* Demonstrated ability to successfully handle daily deadlines and multiple projects with competing deadlines.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise discretion when making business decisions.
* Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors and peers.
* Demonstrated ability to present ideas logically and concisely to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.

We offer a competitive salary range of $76,000 to $109,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
