Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, located on Long Island, New York, is presently seeking a Research Technician II or III for an immediate and full-time position in the Tuveson Laboratory.

The Tuveson Laboratory is interested in uncovering biological pathways and identifying novel therapeutic approaches for pancreatic cancer. To this end, we utilize both organoid and mouse models of pancreatic cancer. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Research Technician, with previous experience working in a laboratory environment, to help with preclinical therapeutic studies and general lab support. Familiarity with basic Mendelian Genetics concepts and with common computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. The successful candidate will also possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to communicate clearly, a strong work ethic, great attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, depending on the task.


Position Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for the daily care of our mouse models of pancreatic cancer and for helping to perform preclinical animal studies to test new treatments for this deadly cancer. Job duties will include mouse colony management, including mouse handling, weaning, tail clipping, clinical observation, and application of Mendelian genetics to mouse breeding strategies. The candidate will also be responsible for administering therapeutic agents, operating equipment such as our ultrasound imager, performing survival surgeries including orthotopic transplantation, performing necropsies on our mouse models, keeping meticulous study records. Additional responsibilities will include organizing and maintaining inventories of laboratory reagents, managing the purchasing and stocking of consumables and lab reagents, helping to manage a database of our mouse colonies, managing external requests to share reagents, and aiding in performing basic bench work as needed.


Position Requirements

Education: Successful candidates should possess a BS or MS degree or equivalent and have at least two years of research experience.

Skills: The successful candidate should possess excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills, will be willing to take initiative, and will be able to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of integrity. The candidate must have experience with mouse colony management and application of Mendelian genetics, and general lab maintenance

This position may require occasional duties on weekends and holidays, and the candidate will need to be able to travel freely between the Woodbury and main CSHL campus (a 15-minute drive). Work locations include the main CSHL campus and the CSHL Genome Research Center in Woodbury.
