Director, Student Conduct - Central Campus

Essential Job Functions:



  • Serve as a primary point of contact for institutional community members to report students of concern. The Director handles high-level and sensitive cases, and serious violations of the Code of Student Conduct. This includes adjudicating Title IX cases referred to the Title IX Coordinator. Adjudicate cases and determine developmentally appropriate sanctions for students and organizations charged with violations of the Code of Student Conduct and for student-related grievances.
  • Oversees communication with students, administrators, faculty, staff, parents, attorneys, and others regarding student conduct matters.
  • Prepare and manage budgets and payroll document submission, coordinate schedules, and prepare annual and monthly reports. Manage and approve time entry, leave requests, and schedule changes for direct reports.
  • Develops, administers and revises, as appropriate, departmental policies and procedures and student conduct policies and processes consistent with college community standards and professional best practices.
  • Interview, select, train, supervise and evaluate a student conduct team through the performance management system. Make appropriate staffing recommendations in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Leads educational initiatives to promote awareness of student conduct expectations and fosters a culture of fairness and accountability. Effectively communicate the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities policies, procedures, and services.
  • Provide leadership and training on accurate input and feature usage for Maxient. Recommends and implements changes as system capabilities and constituent needs arise. Maintain accurate and complete conduct records in compliance with the records retention policy.
  • Facilitates the appointment of hearing board members and provides leadership and training for staff, faculty, hearing board, and others on appropriate resolution of student conduct matters.
  • Represent SJC with outside educational institutions, internal departments, and professional organizations. Serve as department liaison and on campus/college committees as requested.
  • Collaborates with Instructional Deans and Department Chairs to assist faculty with responding to classroom management concerns.


Additional Job Functions:



  • Coordinate and collaborate on ongoing awareness and prevention programs for students including, but not limited to the U Got This! Online training and on-campus awareness and prevention events.
  • Provides educational programming and outreach for the college community including faculty advising, faculty orientation, and new student orientation. Develop and maintain the college's web page on matters related to student conduct.
  • Assist the San Jacinto College Police Department with timely reporting and collecting of Campus Crime Statistics (Clery reportable offenses) from campus security authorities for the Annual Security Report.
  • Serve as a member of the College's Behavior Intervention Team (BIT).
  • Obtain yearly training on Title IX investigative process as required by the revisions to the Clery Act (VAWA and Campus SaVE Act) and on assisting victims of sexual misconduct (dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking) as required by the revisions to the Clery Act (VAWA and Campus SaVE Act).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Evidence of progressive leadership in student affairs.
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local law and regulations pertaining to students such as the Clery Act, FERPA, and Title IX.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound decision-making and judgement.
  • Strong problem-solving, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Must possess personal PC computer literacy and good organizational skills.
  • Must posses outstanding customer service skills and have the ability to work with multiple project and within deadlines.
  • Must be willing to work with interdisciplinary programs and on committees within the College.
  • Must embrace a philosophy of servant leadership and foster a positive working environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with nationally recognized best practices in student conduct administration, including strategic planning and assessment.
  • Demonstrated record of career progression in student conduct administration.
  • Ability to adjust actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, including active listening.


Required Education:



  • Bachelor's degree or Juris Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.


Preferred Education:



  • Master's degree in student affairs/higher education administration, counseling, law, or related field, or a Jurist Doctorate.


Required Experience:



  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in Student Services, college student personnel, higher education administration, Title IX, student legal issues, Residence Life, student orgs or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience.


Preferred Experience:



  • Experience working in student conduct in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with Maxient database system.


NOTE: This position has opportunity for limited remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.

Salary Grade: 120
