Job Purpose



  • In the electrified transition, the research engineer sets the technical spec and test methods for new products that are electrified to meet the customers requirement and Honda's high standard for quality in the performance and marketability research area.



Key Accountabilities



  • Lead and establish the next generation of high-level specifications and confirmation methods representing new technologies and components in the area of performance and marketability by using these methods:

    • Bench marking and market sensing
    • Leading prototype confirmation testing in the project team
    • Set technical targets with the use of DA's and FTA/FMEA
    • Ensure guidelines, standards, and regulations are met
    • Confirm customer requirement and Honda quality with prototypes and pre-production samples.
    • Write new A-requirement test methods


  • Lead project teams through Test or Development Project Leader Role to meet the targets and schedule of the development by ensuring:

    • Deadlines achieved (SED and TE Milestones)
    • Resource needs are coordinated with supervisor
    • QCD targets for the project are met
    • Communicate project status and participate or lead project meetings, discussions, and development events.


  • Generate and develop new ideas to improve Honda competitiveness through competitor research to create new product features and technologies
  • Lead market quality and VA themes with minimal supervision in the area of performance and marketability. Utilize problem-solving methods to analyse root causes. Develop and implement C/M specs as necessary. Support recurrence prevention when appropriate
  • Approve reports, A-requirements, and evaluation documents in area of expertise for all projects



Required Education



  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in related field



Required Experience



  • 10+ years research engineering experience preferably in Power Products or Powersports



Decisions Expected



  • Propose and initiate countermeasures to overcome problems which place development at risk
  • Deciding the QCD for complex situations in individual and team areas of responsibility
  • Deciding the target and final specification of the machine under development



Working Conditions



  • Travel: Amount varies based on project demands/responsibilities, conferences, etc.; includes possible overseas travel.
  • Physical: Splits time between desk and shop working with the actual machines. Kneeling, standing, squatting, reaching, or bending required. Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Hazards: Risks found in a typical office & shop setting. May be exposed to explosives/flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals and moving parts.
  • Overtime: Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.
  • Maintains professional conduct and follows all departmental, safety DEPARTMENT, and COMPANY policies, Procedures, AND rules.
