In Fremont, CA, we serve global clients in telecom and datacom industries in providing next generation optical modules to support 5G Networks. We are looking for a Manager, Mechanical and Device Packaging Design. We are expanding our capabilities to accelerate our leading edge optical networking capabilities. We are looking for a Mechanical Manager that will design, review, and improve a variety of optical equipment, including optical amplifier (EDFA and Raman), OTDR, OCM, OSC and other electronic products for artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, and other advanced optical networking systems and data communications networks. What You Will Do * Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team through the entire product design life cycle including requirements gathering, concept generation, detailed design with analysis, verification testing, cross-functional reviews, fabrication, manufacturing release, training and development, and process improvements * Coordinate and bridge communications with the global engineering teams in USA, Asia, and elsewhere * Develop and define specifications for the mechanical portion optical networking products and components used in the optical networking industry, such as optical modules, line cards, chassis, AWG, DGE, TF, VOA, Hybrid, PD, and other devices * Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, meet all specifications, including performance and quality * Review, guide, and contribute to design, simulation, analysis, and verification of mechanical performance to meet thermal, power dissipation, vibration, shock, environmental, mechanical stress, reliability requirements, and specifications. * Ensure design meets other requirements, such as design for manufacturing, yield, test, cost, tolerance, reliability, compliance, quality, etc. * Review and approve part and assembly drawings, reports, and BOMs * Develop and implement engineering processes and best practices. * Work with cross-functional team members and suppliers to verify or resolve various issues or tasks, such as procurement, processes, yield, fabrication, delivery, or quality improvement * Assign resources, organize, develop, train, and recruit mechanical engineering team * Align team goals and priorities with business needs (roadmap) * May administer mechanical tools, such as Solidworks, Solidworks PDM professional, Ansys Mechanical, Icepak, etc. * Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) * Bachelors Degree in Engineering, preferably in mechanical engineering or related field * Expertise in Mechanical Design * At least 3 years in technical or people management * Experience designing data communication networking equipment (chassis, line cards, modules, or optical components) * Experience with mechanical design, material and GD&T * Strong understanding of ASME 14.5 * Experience of design for manufacturing, design of experiments, and characterization * Proficient using mechanical CAD software (SolidWorks) and other engineering tools * Understanding of FEA for stress and thermal analysis, ideally understand the use of Ansys Mechanical and Icepak simulation tools * Effective communication, goal-setting, interpersonal and project management skills * Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team members * Ability to coordinate with remote (global) teams What Will Put You Ahead * Masters Degree * Experience with program or project management * Experience with cross-functional technical leadership * Strong technical capability in component and/or fixture design for optical components * Experience with opto-mechanical component design, precision alignment and machine design principles, methods of mounting optical and electro-optical components (laser, lens, photo diodes), optical alignment and assembly fixture * design * Understanding or experience with optical modeling tools such as Zemax For this role, we anticipate paying $150,000 - $210,000 per year.
