Project Crew Worker

This position will report to the Project Crew Supervisor. Project Crew worker in the Building Service department of the Physical Plant at Davidson College will be responsible for all event-related set ups and breakdowns for the college. Set-up diagrams will be provided for each event. Set-ups could include but are not limited to; setting up and breaking down of equipment, tables, chairs, stages, podiums, sound equipment, lights and other duties as needed. When we have downtime from set-ups or breakdowns, the Project Crew team member will assist building services residential halls & academics; clean & sanitize specified areas of the assigned buildings (directed by Superintendent), dispose of trash/hauling trash totes, scrub, strip & wax, sweep & mop floors, clean windows, remove cobwebs and any other duty deemed necessary by the Project Crew Supervisor or Superintendent.

Qualifications:



  • HS or GED; NC Driver's License required, good driving skills, and acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Have situation awareness for safety
  • Working knowledge of buffers, Pressure washers, Automatic Scrubbers, and Carpet Extraction.
  • Working knowledge of best practices for the cleaning industry including chemical, tools and equipment, OSHA regulations, blood borne pathogens, and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Dependable: This position is considered Essential, and required to work in adverse situation

Physical Functions:



  • Bend, squat, stand, kneel, walk
  • Regularly ascend/descend stairs (daily)
  • Walk for long distances
  • Reach above shoulders, handle keys, tool, objects, push, pull, and carry items (repeatedly)
  • Work indoor/outdoor environment
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 50-75 lbs. daily and repeatedly


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certification in forklift operation; if not certified, then training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of floor cleaning/care procedures, techniques and equipment
  • Stripping & Waxing
  • White Glove Experience


Knowledge, Skills, & Training

Working knowledge of buffers, hand trucks, dollies, trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, pressure washers, wet vacuums, floor scrubbers and buffers, carpet cleaners and carpet extraction. Must have situation awareness for safety. Must have basic problem-solving skills. Have working knowledge of best practices for the cleaning industry including chemical, tools and equipment; OSHA regulations, and blood borne pathogens, and personal protective equipment (preferred). Willing to be a team player in all of Building Services tasks in the event of absences or on an as-needed basis. Ability to read and comprehend.

Responsibilities:



  • Interact appropriately and communicate effectively with customers.
  • Complete setups and takedowns campus wide.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
  • Remove, replace, and rearrange furniture Campus wide (occasionally off campus)
  • Ability to operate Davidson College vehicles (pickup, golf carts, box truck)
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Required to respond to on-call issues in a timely fashion
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good time management skills
  • Provide positive client experience to all patrons
  • Attend required meetings, when applicable
  • Report all maintenance issues with equipment immediately
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations set by Davidson College
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to be proactive (correct issues as they arise)
  • May be required to work nights or weekends; On-call required (on rotation) and some travel (limited to within 50-mile range for pickup or delivery)
  • Perform cleaning tasks as needed including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming etc.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms
  • Restock paper and soap products
  • Empty trash receptacles
  • Cleaning glass (in arm's length)
  • Complete inventory quarterly to ensure we have the proper supplies to complete all necessary jobs
