The Aquatics Safety Officer assists with the training, auditing, and management of NOVA Parks waterpark facilities. This position works under the direction of NOVA Parks' Aquatics Manager.

Pay Rate: $19.00 per hour

Major Duties/Specific Tasks

  • Assists in ensuring safe and proper operation of all (5) waterparks by conducting routine announced and unannounced audits& inspections.
  • Assists with training and the evaluation of lifeguard and other aquatic personnel.
  • Assists with the coordination of Jeff Ellis and Associates national audits.
  • Ensures proper water quality and standards of cleanliness.
  • Enforces safety standards.
  • Inspects to ensure proper storage and use of pool chemicals.
  • Assists with public relations by handling visitor inquiries and providing information and assistance to pool managers.
  • Conducts staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Assists with the maintenance of audit record logs on water quality, inspections, lifeguard testing, etc.
  • Reports unsafe conditions to the Park Specialist, Pool Manager, and/or Supervisor on Duty and Aquatics Manager.
  • Ensures safety of all waterpark patrons in and around the facilities.
  • Recognizes and responds effectively to emergencies.
  • Informs swimmers and waterpark patrons of rules and regulations and enforce as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Aquatics Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Graduation from high school with a minimum of two years leadership experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Certification as an Ellis and Associates International Lifeguard Training Program, Healthcare Provider Basic Lifesaving Support, and Standard First Aid.
  • Current local certification with license in pool operation, including Certified Pool Operator and/or Aquatic Facility Operator.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the staff.
  • Ability to learn the operation of the facility.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and teaching skills.
  • Knowledge of pool mechanical equipment and related materials.
  • Ability to make minor repairs on pool equipment as needed.
  • Ability to gain a working knowledge of the Park Authority, its history, organization, rules and regulations.
  • Availability to work additional hours during peak operating season.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Availability to work a variable work schedule, which may include early and late hours, and weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain valid driver's license, must maintain safe driving record.
