Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support our National Programs Intelligence Systems & Application Operating Unit. The SITE III ITS Task Order effort is charged with the orchestration, sustainment, and evolution of a portfolio of mission applications and services for an Intelligence customer.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for all Operation & Maintenance (O&M) tasks and maintaining operational baselines and performance of application O&M activities to include: patching, database performance monitoring, and customer support. When necessary the candidate will troubleshoot database performance issues and recommend appropriate action. Candidate will work closely with members of the project team, product subject matter experts, end users, and software engineers to ensure that the application remains operational by monitoring performance, providing technical assistance, and consultation to users. Additional duties will include supporting system administrators, developing tools to assist in management of systems, ensuring application documentation (e.g., System Administration Guides, SOPs, Installation Procedures, etc.), and performing daily application/database backups.

Database Maintenance and Monitoring:

Ensure the integrity, security, and availability of Oracle and PostgreSQL databases by monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and conducting routine maintenance.
  • Perform database tuning, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Ensure database systems run efficiently and meet business requirements through performance analysis.

Security and Compliance:

  • Administer and enforce security policies and procedures for databases across development, test, and production environments.
  • Maintain privileged user accounts, ensuring compliance with DIA and DoD security regulations.
  • Complete annual user training and conduct security patching in coordination with system administrators.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with platform system administrators, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure database and system performance.
  • Offer recommendations for system and performance improvements, and provide support for database-related issues.
  • Participate in system accreditation processes and support RMF compliance for the classified environment.

Technology and Tools:

  • Administer and optimize databases using Oracle 19c, PostgreSQL, and related tools such as RMAN, PL/SQL, and Oracle Text.
  • Work with application servers like WebLogic, JBOSS, and Tomcat, and server platforms such as Linux (RHEL, CentOS) and Windows Server.
  • Utilize AWS (C2S), CI/CD processes, and containerization (OpenShift, API services) where applicable.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

Experience & Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of related experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience, or a PhD with 3+ years of experience.
  • Alternatively, 4 additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Database Proficiency:

  • Extensive experience with Oracle 19c, including PL/SQL and RMAN for database management and recovery.
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL, with a focus on database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

System Administration and Security:

  • Proficiency in managing both Windows Server (2016/2019) and Linux systems (CENTOS/RHEL).
  • Experience with security certifications like CompTIA Security+ CE and DoD 8570.
  • Ability to manage user access, database backups, and ensure systems comply with security standards.

Clearances & Certifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance, with the ability to obtain a polygraph (a critical requirement for many DoD roles).
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+ CE and DoD 8570 certifications.

Other Tools/Technologies:

  • Familiarity with tools like Oracle WebLogic, Apache, JBOSS, and Tomcat.
  • Experience in cloud environments (AWS/C2S), VMware, and familiarity with containerization and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Experience with the Intelligence Community (IC), especially in the context of DIA operations.
  • System Accreditation and RMF: Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and DoD accreditation processes.
  • Cloud and Middleware: Experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware products (e.g., Oracle Content Manager on Oracle WebLogic) and cloud environments like AWS/C2S.
  • Advanced Knowledge: Experience with specialized features like Oracle Text, and knowledge of API services, CI/CD, and container platforms such as OpenShift4.
Work Environment:
  • The role requires flexibility with working after hours or on weekends for deployments and system maintenance.
  • The work is likely to be in a classified environment, meaning strict adherence to security protocols and regulations is essential.
Conclusion:

This position requires a highly skilled DBA with deep expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL, a strong understanding of system administration in both Linux and Windows environments, and a keen eye for database security and performance. Given the classified nature of the work, an active TS/SCI clearance and experience in government or defense sectors are crucial. The role also requires proficiency with various enterprise-level tools and a strong focus on ensuring the database infrastructure is both secure and optimized for high performance.
