Position Summary

The Office of the University Secretary (OUS) is seeking a self-motivated candidate for the position of student office assistant. This position will provide support for the general, day-to-day administrative activities of the office.

The position will support the OUS mission by providing continuity in faculty government, including faculty senate and its many committees, who rely on the advice and support of the University Secretary. OUS is also responsible for UNM's graduation ceremonies, held in the Spring and Fall of each year, and First-Year Family Day in August.

Under general supervision, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide administrative support and customer service to faculty, staff and guests; answer phones and provide general information regarding routine inquiries.
  • Greet guests and provide general information as requested; perform routine clerical work and data entry, as well as routine filing duties.
  • Assist with University events including providing support for UNM commencement, and First-Year Family Day.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

OUS is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules for this position must fall within these hours but will accommodate the student employee schedule each semester. Position may occasionally require evening/weekend hours during our events.

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, enrolled at least half-time (6 hours minimum) each semester.

  • Comfortable working in a professional environment with a small team
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work with confidential information
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Experience with Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and Teams platform
