Visitor Experience Face Painter - Summer 2025
Overview:
We're seeking friendly and reliable team members, looking for an exciting job environment of making people smile - through the art of face paint! Join our Visitor Experience team at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden as we lead in "inspiring everyone with wildlife everyday!"
By building Collaborative Relationships, displaying Positivity & Energy, having Pride, Passion, & a Sense of Ownership, supporting Accountability, Mutual Trust, & Respect, & embracing Progressive Thinking, we've developed/created a dedicated team that focuses on our visitors, community, & future.
We are looking for Ambassadors anticipating working Summer 2025. The estimated start date for this position will be May 10th.
Orientations will be held on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • With Positivity and Energy, seeks opportunities to create INSPIRED visitor experiences.
  • Participates in day-to-day operation of Face Painting team, utilizing various equipment, such as airbrush, face paint, stencils, air compressors, etc.
  • Bring joy to visitors with creative face paint designs.
  • Works events at the zoo that include Face Painting, such as birthday parties and public/private events.
  • Adheres to standard operating procedures and training.
  • Communicates effectively with visitors, team members, and management.
  • Supports management with other duties as assigned.


Requirements:


  • 16 years of age or older. (Minors will be required to provide a work permit when applicable.)
  • Constantly work outdoors in all climates & weather conditions with prolonged stationary positions/traversing at all locations.
  • Move, transport or position 35 lbs. unassisted.
  • Communicate with the public in a positive, friendly manner.
  • Must be trainable on cash handling & maintain proper skill level and consistent product for our visitors.
  • Use of a variety of tools and equipment, which require dexterity and movement of hands.


Schedule Availability:


  • This is a seasonal, non-benefitted position with variable hours ranging from 15-40 per week (not to exceed an annual total of 1500 hours).
  • Must be available at least 3 days per week, including 1 weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).
  • Shifts range from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with most shifts falling between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Shifts typically last 5-8 hours.
  • Students may initially provide availability for 2 days per week, increasing to 3 days once classes are over.
  • Opportunity to continue working Festival of Lights season (November-early January)


What Makes a Great Face Painter:


  • Must be friendly, outgoing, and reliable. Able to engage with the public in a positive manner.
  • Basic artistic experience is a plus.
  • A friendly, empathetic attitude and the ability to connect with people of all ages.
  • Enthusiasm and energy to create a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
  • A willingness to adapt and learn on the job.
  • A passion for wildlife and connecting people with nature.

  • Demonstrated understanding and acceptance of the Core Values and Behaviors of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. Lives these on a day-to-day basis.
  • Appropriate professional appearance, attitude, and personality to work effectively with Zoo staff and the public.
  • Be timely and reliable in attendance and performance.
  • Have a demonstrated affinity for the Mission of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden.
