Summary Critical position responsible for enhancing urban development quality in the City of Garland by delivering expert landscape architecture services. The specialist exercises significant discretion to promote high-quality urban development, focusing on plan reviews, site inspections, and providing expert advice on landscaping, tree preservation, and urban design standards. The role demands effective collaboration and communication with multiple divisions, departments, and external stakeholders. Salary $57,574 - $83,491 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Serve as the lead landscape architecture voice in the land development process, reviewing construction plans for trails, recreation centers, aquatic facilities, and parks. Engage in pre-submittal meetings, technical reviews, and development application management to offer recommendations and guidance. Ensure adherence to approved plans and quality standards in construction projects. Research, analyze and propose amendments to codes, ordinances, and spearhead new studies or programs as required. Review and monitor construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and quality standards. Lead and engage in meetings throughout the construction process, from the pre-construction to close-out. Address construction-related inquiries by examining drawings, specifications, and submittals to provide informed responses. Produce and distribute detailed weekly field reports using cloud-based construction software. Review submitted development plans and requests for compliance with City requirements and approve as appropriate. Prepare and present Planning Reports to Plan Commission, City Council, and other boards as required. Collaborate with departments, such as Neighborhood Vitality and Engineering to review landscape designs and support staff-initiated projects and grants. Develop design concepts by producing graphic presentation drawings. Manage special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from a college or university with an accredited Landscape Architecture program 3 years related experience Licensed to practice as a Registered Landscape Architect in the State of Texas; or must obtain a license to practice in the State of Texas within one year of hire, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from a college or university with an accredited Landscape Architecture program 3-5 years of experience in planning, designing and implementing landscape architecture projects
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of landscape architecture from schematic design to post-construction. Proficient in construction techniques, materials, ADA compliance, and project monitoring. Strong analytical capabilities to review construction plans and identify potential design issues. Familiarity with software tools like AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Skilled in drafting site observation reports and managing punch lists. Ability to work collaboratively, adjust to shifting priorities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment The incumbent works mostly in an office-type environment, relatively free from exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional work will be performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
