Introduction
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Plumbing Inspector to join our Building Inspection Department and contribute to our commitment to ensuring compliance with plumbing and heating codes and regulations. Our department plays a vital role in maintaining the safety and quality of construction projects in our community.
As a Plumbing Inspector, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity of our built environment. You will be at the forefront of ensuring that all plumbing and heating systems adhere to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance. By meticulously inspecting buildings, examining plans, and collaborating with stakeholders, you will directly influence the quality of construction projects that shape our community.
The Office of Building Inspection and Enforcement is focused on customer service, safety, and providing the best possible advice and inspection services to homeowners, contractors, and developers. We administer the permits for residential and non-residential construction within the community. Permits are administered according to state and local building codes. Our goal is to ensure the safety of the public by requiring building construction projects adhere to these codes. The department is also instrumental in creating an environment in which high quality construction and development can occur in New Haven's neighborhoods. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS This is skilled and supervisory work in enforcing compliance with plumbing and heating codes and related ordinances governing building construction, alteration and repair.
Work involves the inspection of buildings and the examination of building plans for compliance with plumbing, heating, and related regulations and requirements. Work includes inspecting plumbing, heating, and related regulations and requirements. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Inspector with considerable latitude for technical discretion and judgment. Work is reviewed through conferences and reports. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT This is a General Fund, "Tested" position. This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. Bargaining agreements available to review HERE. General Funded hires into this class are not covered by Social Security and will not pay Social Security taxes. They instead participate in the City Pension; the employee contribution rate is 10% of pay. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of: (1) a pre-employment background check, (2) a pre-employment physical examination, including pre-employment drug screening accordance with the City's Drug Free Workplace Policy*, and (3) a 90-day probationary period. Pursuant to the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, The City of New Haven has a adopted a Drug Free Workplace Policy. The City of New Haven requires a pre-employment drug test, which includes screening for marijuana. Selection Plan Applications will be reviewed by the Department of Human Resources. Applicants meeting minimum requirements may be invited to participate in a Civil Service exam process at a later date.
