General Summary of Position Join our team at MedStar Health as a Laboratory Assistant at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, MD. In this role, you will support the clinical laboratory by receiving, logging, processing and distributing laboratory specimens. Training for this role will be 24 hours per week, 7am-3:30pm, for the first 90 days. After training is complete, this role will be PRN as needed with primary coverage on the overnight shift, 11pm-7:30am. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Standard Job Duty: Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Retrieves specimens as directed and takes them to the laboratory for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens. Logs specimens into the laboratory. Bags and files specimens; discards surgical specimens as necessary. Reviews specimen identity, investigates discrepancies, generates appropriate reports, and submits corrections. Maintains a clean, orderly work environment regarding safety and biohazardous conditions. Reports unsafe or hazardous conditions. Maintains required records, reports, statistics, and files as directed. Minimum Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED High school diploma required 1 year clinical laboratory experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic computer skills. Verbal and written communication skills. This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08
