Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
UNC Surplus takes any campus item that a department has outgrown or no longer uses and sells the usable merchandise to other campus departments, students, and to the public. Through a partnership with PowerHouse Recycling, Inc., of Salisbury, N.C.,
UNC surplus recycles an average of ten tons of computers and electronic waste per month, as well as 351 tons of scrap metal waste per month. |
Position Summary |
This position is 100% on-site and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
The Logistics Manager leads the day-to-day logistical operations of the University Surplus Store, Central Receiving and University storerooms. This includes:
Supervision of the warehouse; including training warehouse personnel to ensure compliance with safety policies, managing permanent and temporary staff, and supporting the special needs student program from a local high school. Managing Surplus Property; including managing the logistics of sending palletized items to the State Surplus Office, reconciling the surplus cash draw, depositing cash/checks to the Cashier's office, communicate between State Surplus and departments regarding equipment open sales, and ensuring that all capitalized assets are accounted for the in the Surplus Property Management System and the State Surplus System.
*Customer Service; including scheduling surplus pickups and communicating clearly and promptly with customers, resolving any issues that arise from surplus pickups, resolving departmental charge disputes by providing transactional detail to the customer. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of supervisory experience in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage various tasks efficiently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members and customers. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Attention to detail and general knowledge of the University's policies and procedures.
Understanding of University and
OSHA safety compliance policies and procedures.
Proficient in logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite. |
Required Licenses/Certifications |

Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to navigate going up and down multiple flights of stairs on a regular basis. |
