Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.44 to $29.07/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $28.44 to $40.76/hr.

Work Location: University Center - 1504

Working Days and Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, occasional evening and weekends may be required

Hybrid work schedule will be considered after the probationary period has been completed and as long as hybrid arrangements are approved by the Division of Student Affairs. Brief Summary of Job Duties:

The MCC Office and Space Coordinator reports directly to the MCC Director. Must be aware of concerns, pressures, and inequities affecting marginalized communities, including people of color and people with diverse sexual orientations. Must be willing to work as a member of a team of staff and students advocating for the above mentioned populations. Responsible for the physical aspect of day to day operations of a 150-seat theater, a lounge/gallery space that seats 70 people, two small meeting rooms and a kitchen. Manages the office independently, schedules the entire space, and oversees equipment and technology needs. Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student staff. Manages logistics and assists with publicity strategies for events. Supports special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Administrative and supervisory experience with students.
  • Experience working with theater and/or audio visual equipment.
  • Knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Requires strong interpersonal and good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, analytical and critical thinking, and time and organizational management skills.
  • Knowledge of social justice issues, both current and historical and knowledge of social justice frameworks.
  • Able to adapt to multiple competing deadlines, with attention to details, and the frequent need to troubleshoot problems.

  • Bachelor's Degree

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

45% Center Operations - Provides a welcoming environment to students of color, and students who identify with intersections of multiple identities on campus. Serves as the main contact as the one responsible for the reception and supervision of approximately 9 student staff supporting front office reception. Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from students, faculty, staff and the general public for the MultiCultural Center and evaluates students' needs and concerns and provides referrals to appropriate offices and campus resources. Coordinates and supports department supervisors with the recruitment, selection, and training for student staff and volunteers. Works closely with the administrative unit to communicate hiring plans and processes. Supports and oversees the on-boarding of new student staff. Assists administrative unit with career staff on-boarding. Coordinates student staff and volunteer schedules and oversees oce utilization. Trains student staff on center procedures and systems. Provide administrative support, guidance, and training to student staff and volunteers. Updates and implements manuals for the front desk and reservable spaces. Prepares quarterly and annual reports that track the use of the MCC space to assist with overall program evaluation and provides guidance to staff and student organization on utilization. Assists and updates MCC reservations calendar. Maintains clear communication with users. Oversees checking out keys, assesses the procedure for efficiency, ensures security of space is maintained at all times, and addresses discrepancies immediately. Maintains the key inventory process. Responsible for contacting Facilities Management, Furniture Services or Communication Services when requested and when issues arise in the building. Supports staff on all needs for the shared building and rooms. Ensures that departmental space is maintained, including making sure the space is kept clean and tidy for users. Provides training for office equipment and has responsibility for scheduling maintenance of equipment. Manages the inventory of supplies for the department and directs the ordering of all standard office supplies. Assists with maintaining equipment inventory. Oversee maintenance and organization of storage closets.

25% Space and Equipment Management - Assists in managing and supervising a 150+ seat fully equipped theater, a 70-seat lounge/gallery space, two small meeting rooms and a kitchen. Oversees scheduling of these facilities and responds to the needs of events that take place in the MCC space ranging from equipment needs to furniture needs. Assists the Director in maintaining and updating policies and procedures regarding all facets of MCC usage and implements the policies. Supervises the maintenance and purchase of all the audiovisual equipment and sound equipment in the theater. Supports special event logistics including room reservations, catering, lodging reservations, special orders, may process MCC related programing/events contracts for all departmental needs, purchasing, etc. Responsible for all routine needs of the building for cleaning of spaces or items in the building. Assist with short and long term space planning needs and space utilization priorities. Works with the administrative unit to serve as the liaison between the department and Information Technology Services (ITS). Provides incidental desktop technical support and troubleshooting of office equipment.

25% Event Support - Coordinates and supervises student technology staff in support of events at the MCC. In collaboration with the programming team and the tech team, manages logistical preparation for lectures, panel discussions, film series, conferences, and live performances, including the scheduling of equipment and support staff in the MCC theater. Allocates equipment to meet those needs. Manages and coordinates schedule for equipment and personnel support. Trains student assistants on lighting and stage techniques. Troubleshoots when equipment malfunctions and coordinates with Instructional Development or other vendors when necessary. In coordination with the vent Program Coordinator, supervise furniture set up in rooms as needed. Oversees the maintenance with audio/visual equipment. Assess the need for purchases of new or replacement equipment. Maintains log of MCC facilities users. Assists the Marketing Coordinator in establishing publicity strategies for each MultiCultural Center event. Supervises students in publicizing events on campus and off campus. Assists in outreaching to the greater Santa Barbara communities. Supports the coordination with Risk Management to prepare insurance documents for quarterly art exhibitions. Troubleshoots when needed with audiovisual equipment.

5% Other Duties - Works with the administrative unit in support of financial matters as requested. Serves as Departmental Safety Representative (DSR). Establishes and maintains methods of effectively communicating safety issues with the department. Ensures all safety measures are followed, forms filled out, and staff trained. Coordinates department Emergency Operations Plan & works closely with alternate DSR. Attend the annual DSR Summit to collaborate with other departments and prepare staff for annual emergency drills. Assist with updating the department emergency phone list and building safety board. Prepare drafts of correspondence and reports, and take minutes of meetings. Maintains office lists and listservs. Support organization and maintenance of google and network drives. Participates in organizational weekly information meetings with the department and with the division as requested. May be assigned special project support and other duties as needed.
