Position Summary
This is skilled work in baking pastries and bread in a dining hall. Work involves supervising and participating in baking a variety of pastries and bread and for assuring proper quality and quantity. Assignments received in the form of menus and through conference with a food service supervisor, but an employee has considerable independence in the actual preparation of bakery goods. All work checked by observance of the results obtained and by analysis of the cost incurred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Considerable knowledge of the types and grades of ingredients used in general pastry and bread baking.
  • Knowledge of health hazards in quantity baking and of effective precautionary measures.
  • Ability to adapt standard recipes as required by variations in quantities requested.
  • Maintain records of output, quantities of ingredients used, and supplies on hand.
  • Complete simple math to increase or decrease simple recipe.

  • Work long hours while standing and under conditions of high temperatures.
  • Lift 50 or more pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for independently increasing a recipe to the correct number of servings and preparing the recipe.
  • Responsible for weighing and measuring ingredients for a recipe and preparing the recipe according to directions.
  • Responsible for preparation of break and special event food items (i.e. fruit pies, wedding cookies).
  • Independently prepares specialty desserts and other items for Founders Lodge, Sr. Pavilion and catering events.

  • Assists with serving on the cafeteria lines when needed.
  • Serves meals at center and for events off campus.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
