* Support product design review for new program launches.
* Develop and maintain material specifications and material engineering related process specifications.
* Review and evaluate engineering change requests.
* Perform manufacturing process technical review assessments for new program launches and for current product and process changes.
* Provide materials engineering support for other engineering groups, plants, suppliers, and customers.
* Support material testing and failure analysis of components submitted to the Metallurgical Laboratory. May include some sample preparation and metallographic examination, hardness testing, chemical analysis, photo documentation, non-destructive evaluation, and mechanical testing.
* Coordinate outsourced testing as needed.
* Interpret test results, write reports, and effectively communicate with cross-functional teams.
* Responsible for completing other engineering projects as assigned.
* Keep current with material and process related technology as it relates to Dana products.
* Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications Desired:
* Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science. May consider equivalent education and experience.
* 7+ years of experience in materials engineering, or related field.
* Experience in ferrous and/or non-ferrous metallurgy field (e.g., steel, iron, aluminum, casting, heat treating, welding, etc.).
* Knowledge of other materials like plastics, elastomers, lubricants, adhesives, paints, coatings, corrosion, etc. preferred.
* Experience in failure analysis, including some use of a scanning electron microscope preferred.
* Knowledge of hardness testing, tension and compression testing, fatigue testing, corrosion testing, chemical analysis, and microscopic evaluation techniques.
* Electric vehicle materials and product experience a plus.
* Mechanical aptitude and ability to read design prints.
* Strong interpersonal skills with people from all levels of the organization.
* Strong time management and organizational skills.
* Demonstrated computer proficiency skills.
* Able to travel occasionally.
* Able to work occasional overtime during the week and on weekends.
