POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Database Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will architect and optimize data infrastructures while leading data engineering projects, mentoring junior engineers, and enhancing our ability to meet evolving business demands. This is a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, Databricks, and Informatica, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.

Location: Northern Virginia / Remote

Clearance Requirement: This position requires the ability to obtain a DHS Public Trust Level 5 Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required to meet this requirement.

Position Type: Full-Time W-2

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Database Architecture & Development

    • Architect and manage complex Oracle and PostgreSQL databases to support core applications and analytics.
    • Design and optimize database structures for peak performance and scalability.
    • Implement advanced data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical).
  • Data Integration & ETL Leadership

    • Lead the development and maintenance of ETL workflows using Informatica.
    • Define best practices for ETL, including data cleansing and quality control.
    • Mentor junior engineers in data integration methods.
  • Big Data & Cloud Platform Expertise

    • Spearhead Databricks initiatives for big data processing and preparation.
    • Architect integrations between Databricks, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
    • Collaborate with architects and engineers on cloud-based data solutions.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization

    • Monitor and optimize database performance, including SQL tuning and indexing.
    • Develop strategies for scalability, capacity planning, and high availability.
    • Maintain data security, backup plans, and compliance standards.
  • Leadership & Collaboration

    • Engage with teams to understand data requirements and develop aligned solutions.
    • Document data flows, ETL processes, and designs for transparency.
    • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering collaboration.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in database engineering with expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in Databricks for big data processing.
    • Expertise in Informatica for ETL and data integration.
    • Strong knowledge of data warehousing principles and data modeling best practices.
    • Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL with expertise in performance tuning.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and mentoring abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DHS Public Trust clearance strongly preferred.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Certifications in Oracle, PostgreSQL, Informatica, or Databricks.
  • Experience leading cross-functional data engineering projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing while working on a computer.
  • Ability to participate in video/phone conferences and meetings.
  • Manual dexterity for operating standard office equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

TRAVEL
Occasional local travel within the DC Metro area may be required.
