VITA Site Manager - 8 Positions

College of Business & Economics/ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Salary Range: $20.00/ hour

Work Schedule: This is a part-time position; Available every Saturday morning from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM between late January 2025 and April 15, 2025. This position is not eligible for benefits. This is a temporary appointment expiring on or before September 30, 2025, with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon availability of funds.

Position Overview:

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Staff (VITA) Manager position, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, will provide tax assistance and administrative support functions for the VITA program. Day to day work is performed independently under general supervision. The incumbent will oversee free tax preparation services (federal and state) for eligible low-income taxpayers.

Essential Functions:

  • Train and supervise student volunteers
  • Preparation and quality review of Federal and State Income Tax Returns
  • Preparation and quality review of Non-Resident Tax Returns and International Student Income Tax Returns
  • Electronic filing of Tax Returns
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of income tax laws and rules
  • Minimum of 2 years of income tax preparation experience
  • Minimum of 1 year VITA supervisory/managerial/training experience
  • Minimum of 1 year working with student VITA volunteers
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects
  • Ability to apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections
  • Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports
  • Ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature

The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
