Summary

The Simulator Maintenance Technician I is responsible for the maintenance of C-17 flight simulators and/or maintenance trainers.


Essential Functions

  • Performs routine maintenance actions including troubleshooting for C-17 flight and maintenance simulators.
  • Applies basic knowledge and experience to solve routine technical tasks or system problems; those that typically may be performed solely by reference to maintenance manuals or similar documents.
  • Receives training in device system and subsystems.
  • Assists in diagnosing and correcting problems on simulators.
  • Learns and performs preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on simulators and associated training and support systems.
  • Work may be reviewed, as determined by the Shift Lead, by a higher-level Technician II or III to ensure compliance with accepted practices and/or standard operating procedures for work performed outside normal daily routine training support calls.
  • Utilizes a maintenance management system to record and track all maintenance activities.
  • Performs pre- and post-flight activities on all simulators.
  • May perform visual alignments, simulator testing, and evaluation of results.
  • May assist during simulator modifications and enhancements; perform administrative tasks and housekeeping functions as required.


Requirements

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent related training.
  • Must have current SECRET level security clearance, or ability to obtain an interim SECRET clearance.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual Acuity - Required for activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing computer terminals, extensive reading, visual inspection of small defects or parts, operating machines, and using measurement devices.
  • Climbing - Ascending or descending ladders and stairs using feet, legs, hands, and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing - Maintaining equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow surfaces.
  • Stooping - Bending body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling - Bending legs at the knee to rest on one or both knees.
  • Crouching - Bending the body downward and forward by bending the leg and spine.
  • Crawling - Moving about on hands and knees or feet.
  • Reaching - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing - For sustained periods of time.
  • Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or between work sites.
  • Pushing/Pulling - Using upper extremities to exert force to thrust or haul objects.
  • Lifting - Raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally.
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling - Working primarily with fingers, applying pressure with the hands, and perceiving attributes like size, shape, and texture.
  • Talking/Hearing - Expressing ideas verbally and perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels to accurately convey instructions.
  • Environmental Conditions:

    • Subject to both indoor and outdoor conditions.
    • Subject to noise requiring raised voices for communication.
    • Subject to vibrations, such as oscillating movements of extremities or the whole body.
    • Subject to hazards like proximity to mechanical parts, electrical currents, working at heights, exposure to chemicals, and high heat.
    • Subject to atmospheric conditions, including fumes, odors, dust, gases, or poor ventilation.
    • Subject to close quarters or small spaces that could cause claustrophobia.
    • Required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
