Essential Job Duties |
The primary purpose of this position is to perform as a journey level
HVAC Mechanic, providing maintenance in approximately 20 residence halls, over 1500 apartment units, and 14 fraternity/sorority houses located on the NC State campus.
This position provides construction, maintenance, and repair of heating and air conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water and steam distribution, and control mechanisms. Additionally, the position is responsible for maintaining refrigeration units and their control systems. |
Other Responsibilities |
May serve on the departmental on call duty rotation. |
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Progressive experience in working with air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water/steam distribution, and controls.
- Must have the ability to diagnose equipment issues and perform repair procedures.
- Must be skilled in the use of tools and equipment of air conditioning systems.
- Must be able to lift 60+ lbs on a recurring basis, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in commercial HVAC work and Class II, III, and IV refrigerant certification preferred.

- Valid North Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
