About the Department
Closed-Loop Engineering for Advanced Rehabilitation ( CLEAR) -housed in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State University and UNC - Chapel Hill, the core's vision is CLEAR. CLEAR focuses on three overlapping foci: 1) Mechanics, 2) Control and Learning, and 3) Perception and Cognition. The interaction of these foci will allow for unprecedented advances in human-machine symbiosis to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.
Essential Job Duties
We are seeking an Assistant Research Professor to contribute to CLEAR's vision and lead impactful research projects. In this role, you will collaborate with leading clinicians and researchers, secure external funding, develop innovative tools and techniques, and publish cutting-edge findings that advance the field of rehabilitation engineering.   • Develop and conduct research studies within the focus of CLEAR (Closed-loop Engineering for Advanced Rehabilitation) research core and the Hand Rehabilitation Lab
  • Develop research proposals independently or collaboratively
  • Create hardware and software to support research efforts
  • Develop experimental plans for conducting human-subject related research
  • Interface with area clinicians to foster collaborations
  • Secure external funding to support own research
  • Contribute to research proposals supporting work in the Hand Rehabilitation Lab
  • Publish key findings in leading journals and present results at scientific conferences
  • Assist with activities associated with CLEAR, such as planning meetings and arranging for speakers
  • Participate in outreach activity for the campus and community
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research

Minimum Education and Experience
The applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field. In addition, we require the applicant to have at least 3 years of research experiences after the doctoral degree.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience recording and processing signals with high-density electromyography (HD-EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG), including use of BCI2000
  • Knowledge in motor unit decomposition
  • Substantial publication record
  • Prior history of writing and submitting grant proposals
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
