General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Physical Therapy Assistant to join our MedStar St. Mary's Hospital team!

As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will be responsible for directing, modifying, and administering the physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, after the physical therapist has evaluated the patient. The PTA (Physical Therapist Assistant) aids with the restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

Primary Duties:

  • Records and reports patient progress in consultation with Physical Therapist as specified by PT (Physical Therapy) Practice Act. Directs and aids the patients in therapeutic techniques, appropriate to patient needs, in accordance with PT practice guidelines.

  • Provides accurate billing information on the same day as services. Coordinates patient care directly with the supervising Physical Therapist. Advises supervising Physical Therapist of any changes in patient condition or alterations from the Rx plan promptly.

  • Interacts professionally with patient/family Communicates appropriately and clearly to facility staff and members of the department.

  • Handles stressful situations with tact and poise. Assists with patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and MedStar St. Mary's Hospital policies are followed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited school.

  • Possesses and maintains license in the State of Maryland as a Physical Therapy Assistant.

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) by end of introductory period (90 days).
