POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the File Room Lead and the Manager of Support Services, and according to established policies and procedures, assists physicians, technologists and patients with the retrieval, filing and creation of copying images onto CDs/DVDs. Also responsible for processing all Life Image duties between BMC and outside facilities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Receives Life Image exams on portal and in person to process and upload into PACS for Radiologists and requesting providers to use for secondary reads or comparison imaging for proper patient care follow through according to established policies and procedures.
  • Prepares CDs/DVDs when requested. Places necessary labels for identification on disc and delivers to clinics, hands out to patients upon request (checking two identifiers) and mails when requested.
  • Identifies new study, retrieves prior studies and makes these available to the Radiologist for interpretation.
  • Processes ED, ICU, Trauma, OR surgical planning, inpatient and outpatient requests to promote timely creation of exams to process outside imaging and/or BMC images that require transfer to an outside facility. This work is important so not to delay sharing of images and to reduce the need to re-image a patient.
  • Locates images by requesting at outside facilities or at film warehouse to request quick delivery to ensure no delay in patient care.
  • Operates printer to print x-ray reports, as required.
  • Following interpretation by Radiologists, forwards x-ray report to appropriate department or person, as needed
  • Ensures files go back to the appropriate place retrieved from, i.e. film warehouse off campus, outside facilities or to patient. Creates CD/DVDs for conferences or for research purposes as required.
  • Performs related clerical duties.
  • Creates orders for reference only or secondary consult exams in RIS to then push images from Life image into.
  • Provides coverage to other areas of the film library as necessary so needs knowledge of breast imaging film library operations and workflow.
  • Answers telephone, refers call, records and transmits messages.
  • Mails reports to outside ordering providers awaiting Radiologist reads on their patients.
  • Provides customer service to ensure both external and internal customers are provided with films/CDs/DVDs and interpretation as required.
  • Works in many systems to capture all information and prior exams for comparison reads.
  • Needs knowledge to navigate EPIC, Sectra, East Boston Epic, Care Everywhere, Powerscribe, Life image and others.
  • Works closely with Radiologists to ensure they have the images needed to read films without delays.
  • Performs department and hospital annual competencies on time
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights and privacy, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.
  • Practices AIDET during all patient interactions.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

HS diploma/ GED.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

Ability to read, write and have knowledge of computer skills in order to retrieve, file and process radiographic films/CDs/DVDs, reports, and file properly.

Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and professionally with physicians and Medical Center personnel to obtain and retrieve radiographic films and reports.

Work requires one month on-the-job training to learn department policies and procedures.
