The Sonographer job performs the practice of ultrasonography and is responsible for the administration of high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques to humans of all ages (newborn to geriatric) for medical purposes. A Sonographer/Technologist performs ultrasonography procedures and related techniques, producing images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. Core Competencies Perform all the duties of a Sonographer I. Capable of providing accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and family using age-appropriate language and verifying that the patient understands and agrees to the completion of the ordered exam. Capable of performing ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting the patient's ability and comfort. Capable of adhering to policies and utilizing protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met. Capable of documenting deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality. Capable of notifying the appropriate health care provider when the immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings, patient condition, or other relevant concerns that may impact patient safety or care. Expected to timely complete all required post-processing, image display, preliminary reporting, and transfer for physician review. Expected to demonstrate timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion. Expected to routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on level of competency. Advanced Competencies Expected to perform all ultrasound-guided biopsies. Knowledge and Competency Experienced and competent in routine and complex studies. Complete understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, department and health system policies, and safety and service standards. Complete understanding of imaging equipment, image processing software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment. Education, Certification & Experience The position requires certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) as a sonographer ARRT(S) or RDMS or CCI certification in medical sonography or RDCS certification in cardiac sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist. BLS for Healthcare Providers. Must have successfully completed their 6-month orientation. (Individuals with at least one year of experience can be hired directly into this role.)
