Overview:

The Physical Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Directorate Training Coordinator who will support the directorate operational training initiatives.

The Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) delivers scientific discoveries and technical breakthroughs thatwill help realize solutions in clean energy and national security and provide economic benefit to the nation.Our portfolio includes materials science, chemistry, geoscience, nanoscience, and nuclear and particlephysics applied to a broad range of scientific and technical challenges. PSD-led research plays a key roleacross Oak Ridge National Laboratory's major cross-laboratory initiatives, with activities that encourage translational research relying on interdisciplinary teams.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Division Training Officers (DTOs) to help ensure training is assigned, completed, and updated.

  • Contributes to the directorate and divisional onboarding activities (e.g. baseline and role-specific training, onboarding handbook distribution) to help ensure an efficient and effective onboarding experience.

  • Supports offboarding activities that helps ensure all offboarding processes (e.g., chemical management, equipment stewardship, lab notebooks, procurement management) are completed.

  • Reviews incoming vendor access requests (i.e. PAS), supports scheduling of pre-job walkdowns, and ensures the receipt of job hazard analyses for vendors and subcontractors performing PSD work.

  • Maintains the PSD training plan, ensures reporting requirements are achieved, monitors training metrics, and coordinates corrective actions where appropriate.

  • Ensures all PSD training records and documents are reviewed, updated and archived per ORNL documents and records management requirements.

  • Reviews and improves the PSD onboarding and offboarding experiences through process reviews and continuous improvement activities.

  • Provides backup to the DTOs as needed.

  • Serves as Point of Contact (POC) for all directorate training requests from internal and external assessors.

  • Other duties as assigned or requested by manager.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of experience or an associate's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the directorate and the Laboratory.

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
