ECU is an emerging national research university with an enrollment of nearly 27,000 students. The University offers 87 bachelor's degree programs, 69 master's degree programs, 13 doctoral degree programs, and 89 departmental certificates. The University is comprised of 10 academic colleges/schools including a medical and dental school. The University is located in Greenville, N.C., a progressive city of approximately 90,000. It is within two hours driving distance of the Atlantic Coast to the east and the Research Triangle area of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill to the west.
The College of Health and Human Performance is home to eight academic units (https://hhp.ecu.edu/academic_programs/). There are excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations within the College and across the University. The College employs three full-time instructional technology consultants, a research development director, and pre- and post-award grant specialists.
The Department of Health Education and Promotion is comprised of 34 faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a variety of areas that center on improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities, populations, and the environment. The Department offers four-degree programs, two minors, and three certificate programs which include a BS in Public Health with concentrations in Community Health, Worksite Health Promotion, and Pre-health Professions; MA in Health Education; BS and MS in Environmental Health; Environmental Health Minor; Public Health Minor; Environmental Health Foundations Certificate; Sexual and Reproductive Health Certificate; and Maternal and Child Health Certificate. The BS in Public Health has been accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (
CEPH) as a standalone baccalaureate public health program which serves approximately 750 student majors and intended majors. The MA in Health Education is offered online as a distance education degree. The Department is highly regarded in the University for its teaching and research excellence. Job Duties |
The Department of Health Education and Promotion at East Carolina University seeks candidates for a nine-month, tenure track position as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or Professor of Health Education and Promotion. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent research and seek external research funding. The candidate will teach courses within the BS in Public Health and the MA in Health Education in one or more of the following areas: health disparities, global health, community health, health behavior theory, health education interventions, worksite health, program planning, program evaluation, research methods, and epidemiology. Candidates are expected to provide professional service to the University, profession, and community; and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience |
PhD in Health Education, Health Promotion, or Public Health (or closely related field such as Health Behavior, Epidemiology, Health Policy, and Health Communication).
Candidates with a doctorate degree conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or Full Professor upon initial appointment. Candidates who have completed all, but their dissertation (
ABD) will be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to their first reappointment.
Qualifying degrees must be received from regionally accredited institutions. |

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
We seek individuals with an ability to engage in research and scholarly activities as evidenced by publication in refereed journals and a focused research plan with potential for external funding. We also seek applicants with teaching experience or demonstrated potential for success in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, with proficiency in one or more of the aforementioned areas. Preference will be given to candidates who have: (a) an established record of research and scholarly activity, (b) previous health education/public health experience, previous teaching experience, (d) professional association involvement, and (e) a record of community engagement. |
